Four years ago, the City of Galena gave its approval for the Parker development, granting everything the developer requested. The plans and approvals provided no protections for neighbors, the community, or taxpayers. Since then, we have been fighting to stop the development, and today, we are happy to say, the fight continues.
Last fall, the Illinois Appeals Court overturned the Jo 'Daviess Circuit Court decision that had previously voided the Parker approvals. We are now dealing with the last count in the lawsuit, which had been set aside by the Circuit Court while the other counts were addressed. This count is directed toward the developer, not the City. It focuses on the enormous impacts of the development's planned features and uses, including light, noise, traffic and other impacts.
Although "Wendy Clark" is the only name on the lawsuit, this legal case is for all of us who are concerned about the future of Galena. You, as a "concerned citizen," have provided invaluable moral and financial support.. However, far more money has been spent than anyone ever anticipated, and Wendy has carried the lion's share of the cost and work. The only thing that can stop the Parker development is the lawsuit, and while the developer's resources seem endless, Park the Parker's bank account is currently empty.
As a community, let's finish the fight on this final count of the lawsuit on behalf of the town and the landscape we all love so much! All donations are appreciated.
